A Warm Welcome
Lucy Joyce, Principal
Hello! I’m Lucy, and I’m thrilled to share a bit about Thornbury Music, which my mother, Anne Joyce, established over 40 years ago.
As a professional clarinetist, saxophonist, and an accomplished pianist who studied at The Royal Academy of Music, I am deeply passionate about music and education. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of talented teachers who are just as enthusiastic about music as I am. You can explore their profiles on our website to learn more about their backgrounds and styles. To make it easier for new students to begin their musical journey, we offer a special half-price trial lesson for those under 18. This is a great opportunity for you to try out different instruments and connect with your teacher. I wholeheartedly believe that feeling inspired and supported by your instructor is crucial for successful learning and practice, and I can’t wait to help you discover your musical path!

Our Music Studios
Our four music studios are fully equipped to provide an exceptional learning experience for all students. Each room features a piano along with a variety of instruments, including drums, guitars, and cello, ensuring a diverse musical environment. Additionally, we boast a vast collection of sheet music, including repertoire from ABRSM, Trinity, and Rockschool, catering to all levels of musicianship. Join us and explore your musical potential our well-appointed spaces!

Graded Music Exams
At Thornbury Music, we like to offer graded music exams, should our pupils wish to take them.
Exams can encourage the development of strong technical skills, musical understanding and performance confidence, while setting achievable goals to work towards. Exams also teach valuable life skills such as discipline, time management and resilience, and offer recognised qualifications that can support future academic pathways and build lasting confidence in music-making.
We teach the following syllabus at Thornbury Music
ABRSM - Associated Board of the Royal School of Music
Trinity College London Classical and Rock & Pop
ABRSM and Trinity exams can be either face to face or a recorded performance
RSL - Rockschool Ltd
Face to face exams are held at a local Public Centre
